St. Mary's National School, Tarbert was built in the 1960’s and underwent a major extension in the late 1970’s in order to accommodate the growing population. The School is located in Chapel St, and comprises of eleven classrooms, a general purpose hall, kitchen, staff room and principals office. The grounds include three tar macadam yards where the children play during their breaks. The school is well serviced and has central heating through out.
Tarbert National School is a Catholic School, under the patronage of the Bishop of Kerry, and a Catholic ethos permeates all aspects of the curriculum.
The school has 7 teachers, which includes a Teaching Principal plus 5 other class teachers and a shared learning support teacher. A part-time resource teacher is also employed as well as a part-time secretary, caretaker, classroom assistant and cleaner.
As well as the required curriculum the school participates in many national and local initiatives.
